‘SMIRNOFF EQUALISING MUSIC PRESENTS’ AT PRINTWORKS
Smirnoff Equalising Music takes over London’s Printworks on Saturday 13th October with The Black Madonna, Honey Dijon, Peggy Gou, Artwork and more.
Working in partnership with Smirnoff Equalising Music, Printworks aims to more than double the number of female and non-binary artists performing at the iconic club space in 2018.
Launched in 2017, Smirnoff Equalising Music is a 3-year, global initiative to escalate gender parity in the music industry by 2020 and redress the gender imbalance on club and festival lineups. We all know the disparity is real – FACTS, a bi-annual study of festival lineups by Female:Pressure, showed that in 2017 women still only accounted for 19% of festival headliners. Smirnoff Equalising Music is an initiative designed to effect real, top-down, industry-wide change.
One reason often cited for the gender imbalance on club and festival lineups, is the smaller pool of female talent to choose from, something the Smirnoff Equalising Music initiative is also tackling through a new DJ mentorship programme launched this year. Internationally renowned DJs The Black Madonna, Artwork, Honey Dijon, Peggy Gou and Nastia hand selected 10 talented aspiring DJs from hundreds of entrants, to coach and mentor throughout the summer, with the mentees all given the opportunity to perform at selected Global events.
Today, Smirnoff is proud to announce that the winners of the Smirnoff Equalising Music mentorship programme, will also be given the unique opportunity to perform at Printworks.
Headlined by The Black Madonna, Peggy Gou, Honey Dijon and Artwork, ‘Smirnoff Equalising Music Presents’ at Printworks will take place on Saturday 13th October. Alongside performances from Mella Dee, HAAi, Grainger and the headline artists, the event will also feature DJ sets from Smirnoff Equalising Music mentees and rising stars Alexis, Catalina, Eva Crystaltips, Jaguar, Jay Carder KIIA and Trudy Knight.
Printworks will play also host to inspirational talks with artists and industry leaders, designed to break down barriers for women in electronic music and inspire and empower the next generation of female and non-binary talent.
