Orchestra live on stage: 9.30pm – 10:45pm
Printworks London teams up with the UK’s most innovative orchestra for a special event curated to immerse all senses in a classical masterpiece. Incorporating the highest quality sound and lighting that Printworks’ Press Halls are famed for, this will be an orchestral experience like no other.
In 2014 Aurora became the first orchestra in history to perform a whole classical symphony entirely from memory, without sheet music or music stands. The results were electrifying. With no barriers between players and audience members, performing by heart unlocked a unique sense of communication and spontaneity, as well as a host of new theatrical possibilities. Since then Aurora has pioneered memorised performance in concert halls across the globe.
For this special event, Aurora for the first time combines the potential of an orchestra playing from memory with the vast scale of the Printworks Press Halls to give a uniquely immersive experience of Beethoven’s Symphony No 7. With the orchestra exploded across the space, audience members will be able to experience the symphony from inside, getting up close to the orchestra’s players as they perform in ways that would be impossible in a concert hall. Also exploded in time, movements of the symphony will be interspersed with sound and light installations, enabling audience members to uncover the secrets of the building and choose their own path through this great work. Whether you’ve never experienced an orchestral concert or have loved this symphony all your life, this event will offer a completely fresh and revelatory take on Beethoven’s music.
This event features three-dimensional ‘acoustic shell’ audio reinforcement provided by leading German specialists d&b audiotechnik. d&b’s cutting-edge Soundscape technology makes it possible for the orchestra to perform across a much larger space than it would normally, whilst retaining immersive sound that is natural, harmonious, enveloping and emotionally engaging.
Please note: this is a standing event, with seating only available for those with special access requirements. If you will need a seat or have any concerns about access please email the Printworks access team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Aurora’s performance at Printworks is supported by the Royal Philharmonic Society Audience Fund in association with the Rachel Baker Memorial Charity.
‘Playing from memory, Aurora created an organic sense of community, dynamism and inspiration.’
